Civil construction: A requirement for a robust and reliable training pipeline

Dr. James Allan Jones

Shortages of skilled labour are a persistent and recurring problem in the New Zealand construction industry, posing constraints in periods of growth for decades.

In this report, Dr. James Allan Jones delves into the fundamentals of the problem and explores conceptual solutions.

Four key urgent actions are recommended:

  1. Significant and ongoing engagement with industry
  2. Substantial and sustained funding at scale to develop multiple training options.
  3. A large campus for training at scale to develop multiple training options.
  4. An integrated training pathway. The large campus would sit inside of an integrated training pathway.
