Special Projects

Having spent 20 years as an educator in secondary schools in New Zealand and the UK, in both careers and mathematics teaching, I have developed a keen interest into how we can support people into the opportunities available in the trades.  A growing interest of mine over the past 8 years has been focused on increasing gender diversity in the trades, so much so that I have recently submitted my Doctor of Education thesis in this area. As well as my EdD, I have been privileged to work on research projects focused on women in non-traditional trades.

As well as my research, I have been the Chairperson of Women in Trades NZ – working to get more women into the trades through the provision of positive exposures to the different trade opportunities and role models. This work stemmed from my work in secondary school careers where I saw a number of young women consider the opportunities within the trades, but then push them away.

I am looking forward to working with the ConCOVE team to connect industry, and Vocational Education providers to reimagine career pathways and opportunities within the construction and infrastructure sector.
