Identifying the timing, scale, and scope of disruptions to the workforce, and developing appropriate responses

Project Description
Identify opportunities arising from future disruptions to the industry and develop appropriate vocational education strategies to support employers and the workforce to adapt and benefit from technological and other changes

Benefit to Construction and Infrastructure sector
Industry will have future looking strategies to maximise benefits from technological developments and ensure employers and workers are supported with appropriate vocational education products to adapt positively to technological and other disruptions to the way we work.

Disruptive technology is an innovation that significantly alters the way that consumers, industries, or businesses operate. It sweeps away the systems or habits it replaces because it has attributes that are recognisably superior. Disruption itself is not new to the construction and infrastructure industries, but the pace, scope, and scale of disruptions are increasing with leaps in technology.

The purpose of the Disruption Project is to prepare the industry to manage disruptions to the nature of work brought about through new technologies. We will assist the development of relevant training solutions in a timely manner by researching the form, scope, scale, and timing of these forecast disruptions.

Research into the speed, nature and scale of disruption provides a generalised view of their impacts and timing. The generalised nature of the impacts and timing means the implication for Construction and Infrastructure industries’ career development and impacted training products is unknown. This project is designed to address these concerns.

The Disruption Project will establish an ongoing service that monitors technological advances and seeks to predict the nature, timing and scale of disruption. This will help inform the timing and nature of new training designs (secondary, tertiary and in-work) to ensure industries’ needs are always met.
