Supporting Māori businesses in Tauranga and Gisborne  

ConCOVE’s Co-chairs Graham Burke and Phil Hokianga attended the opening of the ICONIQ GROUP Toirakau Paoa Building Facility and visited Te Pae Hākari, a construction company based in Tairāwhiti.

“It was a delight to see the joy from all levels of ICONIQ Group and listen to the apprentices and their excitement to also be gaining trade qualifications, work and stay in the region and one day own their own businesses touched many people”, Phil said.

During the Te Pae Hākari visit, Graham and Phil also discussed current issues within the region with Alex Hawea, the director of Te Pae Hākari and Co-Chair of the Tairāwhiti Regional Skills Leadership Group, along with Nathan Grennell, Director Skills and Employment MBIE, and Andy Cowan, Senior Regional Advisor Innovation Sector Workforce Engagement Programme, MBIE and Lyall Anaia, Regional Lead, RSLG, MBIE .

The warm hospitality from the two organisations was gratefully received. ConCOVE looks forward to future collaborations and learning from iwi projects as we continue to support Māori businesses to thrive in our sector.
