Presenting at the Te Aranga Alliance Hui

Last week, our Entry Project Lead, Tony Atina, attended a hui with the Te Aranga Alliance, a Civil and Infrastructure group (Fletcher Infrastructure / Brian Perry Civil / Higgins / Beca / Harrison Grierson) based in Porirua that has a contract with Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities for housing removal, land development and infrastructure.
The project is expected to cover 7-25 years, and is currently working in Porirua, with a contract to cover the lower North Island. Both mana whenua (Ngāti Toa) and Porirua City Council have been embedded to streamline Alliance design and construction work. The project allows for an impact assessment on construction skills in the area while they are there. Actions this year include spending time identifying the local training and employment network and talking with Waihanga Ara Rau and Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council about marae based apprentice training models etc.
The intention of the hui was to bring all of the different parties interested in this area together to collaborate on developing a Workforce Development plan, and included Tony presenting at the event on behalf of ConCOVE, sharing information on our five projects and progress with the Entry project. Other speakers also included Graham Burke (ConCOVE Co-Chair) on behalf of the Construction Sector Accord, Warwick Quinn from Te Pūkenga, and Robbie Paul from the Waihanga Ara Rau.
